Know the Right Skin Care Routine for Your Age

A consistent skincare routine is important to preserve your skin’s youthful glow. But it doesn’t stop here, knowing the right skincare routine for your age is even more essential to give your skin the right care it needs during a certain age.

There are some of us who may have not changed their routine ever since they were in high school. Using the same moisturiser and cleanser your mom suggested. You have gotten used to these and in your mind, you think they are the only products that are well-suited for your skin. Or you’re simply afraid to try something new because your skin might have negative reactions to new products you introduce.

Our skin requires specific needs at a certain age which means there are certain practices that may work whilst we were still teens and there are those that may need to be upgraded once our skin matures. So, changing your routine regularly to suit your skin’s needs is important.

Products that probably worked when you were still 20, in most cases, don’t do much help when you are in your 30s. Modifying your skincare routine to suit your age is absolutely necessary if you want to achieve a youthful and radiant glow during your golden years, especially during decades after.

When you’re in your 20s

Always use a sunscreen when you go outdoors.

One of the things I wasn’t consistent about while I was in my 20s was using a sunscreen. This step is so important if you want to preserve and protect your skin’s youthful glow. The sun’s scorching heat is enough to make you look older even in your 20s and have damaging effects to your complexion. Make sure to pack on a reliable sunscreen with at least 30 SPF on your face, neck, arms, chest and legs or where your skin can be exposed to the sun’s heat.

Use a mild foaming cleanser to remove dirt and excess oil.

Before going to bed, make sure to use a mild foaming cleanser to successfully remove the dirt, excess oil and makeup from your face and it keeps it clean.

Use a moisturiser during the day and night.

You can use a moisturiser with UVA and UVB sunscreen protection during the day.

Use an antioxidant serum after cleansing.

Before applying your sunscreen or moisturiser, apply a suitable serum packed with antioxidants for your skin such as vitamin C or E to help fight damaging free radicals.

Stick to a regular skincare routine and avoid fixing problems that aren’t there yet.

No matter how simple or mild your skincare routine is, making sure that you do them regularly makes a whole lot of difference to your complexion.

When in your 20s, don’t fret too much about premature signs of ageing like frown lines if they’re not there. Some would undergo Botox procedure even when which is a total waste of money. Only consider these options when you actually see problems occurring.

When you’re in your 30s

To get rid of dead skin, clean pores and reduce chances of acne, exfoliate your skin at least once or twice a week.

In your 30s, you’ll notice that your skin is duller and one way to combat dull skin is to exfoliate at least once or twice a week. This is also a great way to scrub away dead skin cells in order to reveal brighter complexion underneath. The skin cells in your 30s don’t turn over as it used to in your 20s which makes this step all the more important. An exfoliating cleanser would work well for your routine.

Use serums and creams with anti-ageing capabilities.

In your 30s, you’ll notice fine lines and premature ageing signs creeping in which is why it’s highly recommended to start using serums, creams and other skincare products that contain anti-ageing ingredients such as retinoid which helps improve your overall complexion and prevent premature ageing like pigmentation and dark spots. It also provides enough hydration to your skin so it feels and looks supple and glowing.

Sunscreen and a regular skincare routine are still vital.

Making sure that you keep up with your skincare routine consistently as well as wear sunscreen protection whenever you go out are essential in keeping your skin looking younger during your 30s. Try to stay away from the sun whenever possible or wear additional protective clothing to make sure that your skin is well protected.

Pack on anti-ageing skincare products at night while your skin regenerates.

Night time is the best time to pack on effective anti-ageing skincare ampoules, serums, cream and etc. because your skin needs the proper nutrients in order to regenerate. Use products that contain powerful antioxidants and nutrients to help boost your skin’s moisture.

When you’re in your 40s and beyond

Start using skincare products that help build collagen and improve your skin’s overall complexion.

In addition to cleansing and exfoliating, you’re going to start focusing more products that contain collagen-boosting ingredients to help keep your skin supple and improve discolorations. There are two ingredients like retinoid and peptides which are helpful in improving collagen production and overall complexion after regular use.

During application, focus on your neck, chest and eye area as much as the face.

When you’re in your 40s and beyond, you’ll notice that the skin in the neck, chest and eye areas would show signs of loose skin and wrinkles. Other than focusing mainly on applying products on your face, you need to focus on these areas as well.

These steps are a simple guide and reminder that our skin needs proper care and ingredients in order to stay healthy and youthful. Don’t worry if you haven’t started yet, or aren’t following your skincare routine consistently, however, you’re going to need to start now and stick to your routine consistently if you truly want to keep your skin looking younger and radiant as the years pass by.
