Easy Tips to Keep Your Skin Firm
Skin Care

Have you tried looking in the mirror and reminisce how your skin used to be firm? When we reach the age where our skin tends to sag and don’t seem to sit where it used to be, we can’t help but wonder what beauty trends and treatments would actually help firm up our skin.

It is easy to be lost in confusion when it comes to anti-ageing products that are marketed due to their efficacy. And once we are smitten by these types of advertisements, we are likely to search for these products where they are available and purchase them with the hope that finally we found the perfect solution to keep our skin youthful.

But not all products are marketed with honesty in mind. Most over-the-counter or drugstore brands contain heaps of ingredients that don’t really do the job you wanted or worse, it can harm your skin and overall health which is why it’s so important to do your research, when it comes to brands or companies before you decide to buy them or you just might waste your time and money.

So, before you start your search for a product that will help keep your skin firm, here are some effective ideas to serve as your guide during your purchase:

Use a Serum or Cream

A serum or cream can help you maintain the elasticity of your skin especially when you look for products that contain a retinoid. Retinoid can actually encourage the production of elastin which is responsible for keeping our skin firm and tight. Boosting your skin’s elasticity helps keep your skin supple and youthful.

Keep your eye protected and moisturised

Often times the eye area specifically the eyelids and under eyes gives away signs of ageing that is why it’s a great idea to take care of it if you want this area to look firm. People often forget to wear sunglasses when they’re out and about during daytime in order to protect their eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. Using an eye cream with retinoid can also help alleviate dark circles.

Protect Yourself from the Sun

Similar to protecting your eye area, wearing sunscreen or sun-protective clothing is necessary to maintain the firmness of the skin. Unfortunately, the sun’s rays affect our skin and cause premature ageing so if you’re used to sunbathing outdoors then it might be a good idea to consider fake tan. Your sunscreen must be at least 30 SPF or higher and must have UVA and UVB protection.

Indulge your skin with Antioxidants

The problem of free radicals is everywhere and the only way to protect your skin is to indulge in antioxidant-rich skincare products. Products that contain ingredients such as CoQ10 or Coenzyme Q10 as well as vitamins C and A help combat free radicals that contribute to the breakdown of elastin which makes your skin look saggy and tired.

Don’t forget your Moisturiser

Our skin requires moisture especially after exposure to free radical damage so a good moisturiser will be handy after you’ve cleansed your face at end of the day or before going out. It also helps prevent your skin from dehydration which affects the skin’s ability to heal after damage and helps improve the protective barrier of your skin. Skincare products with ingredients like essential fatty acids and ceramides make up a good moisturiser.

Don’t forget to Exercise

Exercise keeps your skin and overall health young and healthy. Relaxing and strengthening your neck whilst exercising improves the firmness of your skin especially the neck area. We often forget the skin in our neck area which has a tendency to sag when our skin continues to mature.

Avoid sugar and maintain a Healthy diet

Maintaining a healthy diet is necessary because this not only affects the body but also your skin. It is highly recommended to take less sugar or foods that are high in sugar as this actually contributes to premature ageing.

Avoid Smoking

Smoking is not only harmful to your health but also your skin as well. This habit can cause damage to the elastin as well as collagen production, so don’t be surprised that your skin looks like it needs a boost if you’ve been smoking.

Eat foods that promote a Healthy Skin

Focus on including foods that promote a healthy skin in your daily diet because this is an essential part in order to keep your skin happy and nourished. Some foods such as fatty fish, avocado, walnuts, broccoli, almonds, sweet potatoes, yellow or red bell peppers, tomato and more help encourage a healthy skin.

It’s not easy to follow these tips if this is your first time and you might feel the pressure too which can be bothersome, but as soon as you dedicate yourself to this journey you’ll realise that these tips are absolutely doable and effective. You’ll see the difference these tips make as soon as you consistently include it in your daily routine. If your skincare goal is to improve your skin’s firmness or early prevention from premature ageing or damage then these tips are definitely worthwhile.

For me, finding the right moisturiser for your face and using it regularly can really keep the skin bright, dewy, and firm. Also this one works, just skip the sugar and eat a healthy balanced diet!
