Being busy and always on-the-go at this point in time is nothing short of typical. Gone were the days when women stay at home and busy their time in raising their kids and keeping the house neat and tidy. Nowadays, women shuffle many responsibilities which makes it even more necessary to stick to a basic skincare routine that doesn’t take up too much of their time.
Those who are relatively new to the subject of skincare often complain about not having enough time or that it’s simply time-consuming. Some also consider their budget and complain that too many skincare products can be quite expensive and impractical. Thus, they’d rather sacrifice their appearance than spending money on something that isn’t worthwhile.
But skincare doesn’t have to be time-consuming or expensive. You can incorporate a regular beauty routine that’s very basic and still give your skin a chance to benefit from the use of skin care products. Let’s admit it, we all care about how we look. Most of the time it’s not because we fear what people think about our looks but it makes us feel good about ourselves.
Our skin is the largest organ of our body which makes it even more practical and necessary to give it the TLC it deserves. Yes, it can be overwhelming to choose products considering the many options commercials and ads bombard our attention with practically every day. But once you familiarise yourself with the right products that provide basic skin care then it wouldn’t seem too complicated at all.
So, let’s start with simplifying your skincare routine. The truth is there are only three steps that must always be part of your regular skincare routine.
Cleansing is definitely the first step to any skincare habit. You may have heard of the term double cleansing that is quite common in Korean skincare. This typically involves the use of an oil-based cleanser to remove impurities from your skin followed by a water-based cleanser. This step is actually useful if you’re using thick makeup since a water-based cleanser isn’t enough to remove makeup residue. However, if you’re not fond of heavy makeup but use minimal makeup every day then cleansing once using a water-based cleanser would suffice.
It is an ideal habit to cleanse your face at least twice a day. Once in the morning and before going to sleep. However, some days may require you to cleanse more than the recommended times since especially when you feel that your skin is too oily and badly need to remove the dirt and grime. This is true after a heavy workout at the gym or after traveling on a plane for several hours.
Knowing the right cleanser to use is also important. Each formula is different from the other and is designed to suit a particular skin type. Choose one that would be suitable for your skin and always be mindful of the ingredients it contains. We really can’t express enough just how important it is to use skin care products that have the right ingredients, natural and organic are definitely the way to go.
Most people often get intimidated by the natural and organic skin care thinking they are more costly. Nothing can be further from the truth as many legitimate and proven brands that aren’t that huge but use ingredients that are truly worthwhile and beneficial to the skin. You may want to ask yourself if it’s alright to use products that contain harmful toxins and chemicals that can be harmful to the skin over time. If you want your skin’s youthful glow to last then opting for natural and organic skin care is what you’ll need.
When cleansing while using an oil-based or water-based cleanser, make sure to gently and thoroughly massage your skin making sure all areas are covered. It may even be ideal to take your time cleansing your face to make sure that all impurities, makeup residue, dirt and grime from your busy day are removed. Most of the time acne, blemishes and pimples are the results of ineffective cleansing which mean that dirt and impurities were not removed totally.
After cleansing, it is normal to feel your skin is a bit dry and tight since most cleansers tend to eliminate the excess oil from your face after washing. This is the reason why moisturising is the second step that is essential in any basic skincare method. It is also the step that is less complicated especially after you’ve discovered the right moisturiser for your skin type.
Just the same as cleansing, using the right moisturiser that is ideal for your skin type is important. Good moisturisers help you avoid skin issues like dry, cracked or lacklustre skin. Facial moisturisers also reduce signs of ageing like wrinkles and fine lines and makes your face softer, smoother and younger looking. In choosing what works best for your skin, take a look at the ingredients once again. Choose the ones that contain ingredients that replenish your skin’s natural moisture such as glycerol, ceramides or niacinamide.
Finally, the last but far from the least important step is using sunscreen protection with SPF of at least 30, especially during the day. Unfortunately, this step is easily neglected by most people but this is the most important step. You must always wear sunscreen protection before going out or whenever your skin is exposed to sun damage. Some people think sunscreen should only be worn while at the beach. Nothing could be further from the truth as it must always be worn to protect your skin against sun exposure. So even if you’re indoors but you’re sitting near a window where your skin is exposed to the sun, it’s absolutely essential to wear ample SPF to protect your skin from sun damage.
It’s best to find a broad spectrum sunscreen that is specially formulated to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays. Exposure to sun damage can often lead to premature signs of ageing and skin cancer which is worse. It also helps to know the proper way to apply sunscreen. Some people think it’s okay to mix it with their foundation or moisturiser but this actually diminishes its efficacy. So, it’s best to just layer the products you’re using. Don’t forget that it is also necessary to reapply your sunscreen after going for a swim or after excessive sweating.
These are by far the basic and simplest steps in skincare that are essential and can be easily incorporate into your daily routine even if you’re busy or always on-the-go. Just do them consistently and you’ll definitely notice the difference each step makes in your complexion.
